Maybe it's a bit early to start talking about this, but are youse guys going to do another Conconully run in the spring?

I'm going to be positively wriggling out of my skin to take the RZR to Conconully, and this time I might even be sociable-like, and maybe leave one or two of the less social riding buddies behind this time.

Seems like they/we always talk about riding slower and enjoying our surroundings more when riding, but then every time we ride it seems like we're in a hurry to get there, we ride as fast as we can without breaking stuff, and then we're in a hurry to get home.

I think that in order to break that cycle, at least some of the time, I need to ride with different folks. I know you guys generally aren't in a huge hurry, so...

Who's up for Conconully?

Let you go? I dunno, we don't usually like to be seen in public with those Can-Am types...

Just kidding, I think anyone who wants to go is welcome to do so.

There's a State Park in Conconully with lots of great camping spots, but they don't let you ride your ORV inside the park so you gotta either push it to your campsite, or leave it outside the gate. It's only a couple hundred feet from the campsites to the gate though.

There are also cabin rental places, and RV parks. The NQA crowd usually frequents "Kozy Kabins And RV Park", which is a tidy little spot with a nice community firepit.

You can ride your ORV right from the RV/Cabin place to the grocery store, gas station, restaurant, or anywhere else in town except inside the State Park, and right onto the trail from town.

How about Memorial Weekend? One the one hand, there will be fewer camping options unless people get started on reservations early, but on the other hand, it's a three-day weekend so more people will be able to go.

OK, I'm going to arrive there on May 27th. Look for the Tioga motorhome with a big aluminum trailer, with a RZR and a couple of Grizzlies. I'll be in slot #15, which runs parallel to the creek near the fire pit.

Since it's memorial weekend, it would be a really good idea to
MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY.

The place I usually stay is Kozy Kabins, because it's a fairly nice spot and there's no BS, as indicated by Steve. Pricing is decent, and I don't even have to leave a credit card number when making a reservation. There's no reason not to make your reservation early. If you can't make it, I'm sure it won't be a problem for you to cancel. There will be last-minute people looking for spots.

Here's a list of some other spots you could stay if Kozy Kabins gets full.

If you've never been there before, here's a link to some directions:
Google Maps Route from Everett to Conconully

If you come from further north, you may want to drag the line so it goes via Hwy 20. That route is somewhat more scenic, but the road is narrower, twistier, has more passes, and is in general more interesting (difficult). If you're in a sporty SUV with a 4x8 trailer, that might be just fine. For a big clunky motorhome with 3000+ lbs dragging out the back, it's definitely better to go via Hwy 2 / 97.

How far out can you schedule? 2 months?

Make your reservation now with Kozy Kabins, and when it's time, ask for the time off. If you don't get it, then call Kozy Kabins and cancel. It won't cost you anything and you don't have to feel guilty because I am SURE there will be a LOT of latecomers looking for spots. She won't have any trouble at all filling your spot in 2 months. Or even a month. Now, if it was less than a week before the big weekend, that might concern her a little but she'd probably fill it anyway.

A lot of interest in this trip. Hope the Globe warms up again by then.

Since this is the hot topic at the moment , thot id take a sec to remind members to please attend the meetings. At least once in a while. We had a good discussion today about important issues and club activities (or lack of) and what we need to do to FIX that. Some ideas came forward but we need more participation and input. Some E-mails will be coming your way soon,
Keep your ears peeled.

Jim, Kathy and Chris have reservations at Kozy Kabins over Memorial Weekend. Kathy will be going over early to have some work done on her quad at the Can Am dealer. We are really looking forward to this trip, and Hope that more people from the club decide to join in.

Nope. That document is helpful though, tells us what roads we could use to limp back to town if someone has vehicle trouble, or for one or two people to get back to town quickly and then drive a tow vehicle out to meet someone who has vehicle trouble.

We've explored a lot of the dirt roads in the mountains around Conconully, but not nearly all of them. I know I'll be wanting to do / lead a route that takes some trails and some dirt roads up to the old fire tower at the top of Funk Mt, then out to a hillside overlooking Fish Lake, and then back down. It's a good 4 or 5 hour ride, with nothing too crazy. It has some parts that are more fun/interesting than others, and then some dirt roads.

I am putting this on my calendar, I have not missed a trip to Conconully yet, but things at work may prevent this trip from happening for me this year. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Woohoo! You asked how long it takes to drive there, which leads me to believe you've never been. We could do a caravan if you want, though the directions are pretty straightforward and we might not go as fast as you want in our motorhome with 3 ATVs on the trailer.
