Since I got my Dual Sport, my Yammie sits on the air table looking very lonely.

Walker is one option.

Another option is:

I found some great trails to recon out in the Wilkeson area if anyone is interested in a S End trip.

Uh, the subject says Walker, but the body says Wilkeson area. Those are pretty far apart, aren't they?

Weather's looking pretty awesome this weekend in Mt Vernon, if it holds true.

If we did a Walker trip, would people be content to stick with 4x4 trails so I could bring my RZR S? It's too wide for the ATV trails.

I've only been to Walker once, so I dont mind the 4x4 trails, as long as are challenging enough.

I've been to Walker at least a dozen and a half times, and I feel like pretty much everywhere at Walker except the service roads is challenging in one way or another. Even the ATV trails they've paved with those waffle brick things are steep and have sharp turns.

If its waffle brick, it isnt a trail in my book. Thats a highway.

Its all the stuff that comes with an ungroomed trail that makes it fun.

Both can be fun. When the waffle brick is wet, not as wide as your quad, and turns sharper than your quad can on a steep hill, it's still fun. Possibly even a little challenging.

However, I too prefer ungroomed trails with scarey hill climbs and roots and rocks and stuff to climb over.

Weather's still looking good, so I'm definitely going. I roped Les Leonard into it as well. I plan to be at the main parking area at 8am. We'll try to meet up with some folks. Probably have the White/Black RZR, silvery Grizzly, and be driving the white van with funky roof.

OK. Les canceled, Rhino won't start. Since it'll otherwise just be me and one other, I guess I'll relax the timetable a bit. How will I recognize you at the parking area?

Steve's got a bright yellow truck, and I've got a light blue f150, with a big Red Grizzly 660 with 27in tires, you cant miss that either.

Not sure what happened today. The plan, as I understood it, was for the ATVs to go on a bit of trail that would loop back around to the gravel pit, because they didn't want to go up the 4x4 trail entrance, thinking it would be full of trucks and a traffic jam (it was clear, all of the trucks were on the side of the main road getting organized). We were going to meet in the gravel pit. The side-by-sides couldn't follow because they're too wide.

Well, we went on up there, but no ATVs showed up. Paka came up a few minutes later and we waited some more. I scouted around a bit on my ATV but didn't find people. Eventually we went our own separate way, 1 ATV and 2 side-by-sides.

The only thing I can think of is that there was a miscommunication about which gravel pit we were talking about. I guess there are two. The one I thought we were talking about is right off the main road about 1/4 mile out of the parking area. We never went to the bigger one that is halfway up the mountainside.

We had a good ride anyway, sorry we weren't able to meet back up with you guys.

Yeah, that one 4x4 trail with the huge rock was nasty. Delayed us getting back to the parking lot by an hour, mostly due to one punk who refused to use his winch even though his truck was obviously not good enough to do it. He finally made it right after we convinced him to let us squeeze by the other direction, but he'd already broken his truck.

yup, I was especially referring to that clueless crap hat. And even after getting over the rock, he struggled for at least another 20m getting up the rest of the trail.

I made a little movie of the snow portion of our Walker Valley run on the 2nd.

I didn't see a place to upload it to this forum so I put it on Facebook. I'd be happy to send a link to an FTP site where it can be downloaded in its full format, minus the crappy compression Facebook does to it - but I don't want to post that link publicly and get the bandwidth hit if many people go for it.

So here it is on Facebook. Let me know if you want a better copy and we'll figure something out.

P.S. You don't need to be my "friend" on Facebook to see this, but you do need to log in with a Facebook account.

Just put it on YouTube as well. When I made it, I converted the MP3 music track to WAV first, and I think that has foiled the copyright bullsh!t that would otherwise have killed the audio track. We'll see, maybe they'll get me anyway, it will just take longer because someone will have to manually check it or report it.
