| I just got me one of these: http://www.polarisindustries.com/en...rview.aspx
I'll be looking to do a shakedown ride at Walker Valley to get a feel for it, but I'm gonna wimp out and wait for the roof and windshield to arrive first, because of the super-crappy weather.
It'll probably be a Sunday that I take it out, and probably not until the first or second weekend on December.
So who's interested in going along? We'll be sticking to the jeep trails and service roads. It's way too wide for the ATV trails at WV. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Which dunes? Not sure I'm too keen on jumping a 1000-lb rig before I've had a lot of hours of getting used to its handling. Also, not sure I want to go riding in the rain without a windshield/roof, and isn't it snowing on the passes?
I know, I sound like a wuss. I do this for fun, and to me, riding in the rain ain't a lot of fun. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Not so much jumping as in just wide open sand with small whoops that the S will eat up. Trails wide enough and banked to get that G thing going.
We do a thanksgiving ritual at Sand lake every year complete with all the standard food just like at moms house. It will be a bit on the cooler side but not expecting rain.

| That does sound like fun. What day(s)?
How does it compare to the dunes at Winchester Bay? Went there last year. HUGE dunes. Might have gotten lost without the GPS. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Since the weather was so good all of a sudden, and we knew that wasn't going to last, we hit Walker Valley today with the Rzr. It kicked ass on the 4x4 trails. Definitely too wide to do the ATV trails. We got some really good snow on the way up to Split Rock. A couple of inches deeper and we'd have had to turn around, but since the snow was light and fluffy and not quite too deep, we were able to push on through. Yay! | So howz about this Sand Lake run now?
What days? Are we going to caravan, or just meet there? Is there an RV park or State Park we can camp at, and can we drive the rigs to the sand from there?
I looked in Ride Ideas for something about this. Didn't see it there. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| We'll be there Wed thru Sun or Mon, Depending weather and variables. We leave 5am Wed to beat the traffic. Fairly nice campground to ride out of and the sand is right there. http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/rec...ndex.shtml
Let me know if your interested and i can send you some pics to get an idea. Mike

| Thanks for the details.
Not sure if I'm up for a 5-6 day trip to a spot that doesn't have electrical hookups for RVs, especially when I look out my window and see snow. I'd probably get bored after the first day or two, and I hate being cold.
I appreciate the invite though, and I am interested in longer trips than just WV. One of the guys who goes to Conconully with me is preparing to make a rugrat, and I suspect once that happens, he'll be a lot less available for riding, at least for the first couple of years, so I need to branch out some too.
I'll try and keep a closer eye on the Ride Ideas forum, and maybe post a few myself. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Looks to me your in dire need of some doors for that thing.
They help immensley at keeping earth debris out, and body parts in.

| Thought about that, but they also isolate you from the environment. I do have a windshield and back window coming, and I'm going to sew up some flaps to go between the cargo area and the rear roll bars to cut down on the amount of stuff the tires thrown into the back - but I don't plan to get doors. I do use the side nets they provide. That makes sense without blocking me off from the world. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Well, during the first real snow of the season, it was pretty good. It was light and fluffy, and not much more than a foot deep. That meant we could push through it without getting bogged down. The RZR didn't have any trouble, but the ATV in front with a fixed axle (low ground clearance) was struggling quite a bit.
I've never tried it, but it seems to me that by the time the snow is deep enough to be fun on a tube, it's too deep for a wheeled vehicle to do well in it. A tube with a kid on it would produce enough drag to bog you down. I think you'd do better on packed snow/ice on a street in Eastern Washington or something.
I'll post here before our next run. Usually pretty short notice though due to weather issues. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

Let me know when ya go again!!James This weekend's looking pretty good, if the weather holds up. Gonna have to get out there super early though, because with the first good weather break in a while the parking lot will be packed for sure. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| OK. Les canceled, Rhino won't start. Since it'll otherwise just be me and one other, I guess I'll relax the timetable a bit. Probably get there shortly before 10. Hope I can find a decent parking spot. | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////

| Yeah, it was a really good run, except the hour spent waiting for guys who were out of their league smashing up their pickups/jeeps trying to get over a really big rock. Finally squeezed by them and life was good again. Paka's a bit of a leadfoot. I thought I was bad... | | | \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\///////////////
